Awards totalling approximately $4.3 million per year are provided to recognize the significant contributions of PhD students to the research activities of the university. The awards are available to all new and continuing PhD students, except those who have their tuition paid by an external sponsor*.
Award values per student will be approximately:
Note: as with most graduate award funding at UBC, students are assigned this funding in three instalments - each instalment is 1/3 of the total annual amount, assigned at the beginning of each term (September, January and May) of the academic year.
*External sponsor: An external sponsor would be an Aboriginal community, employer, or government agency such as a student's home government. A Tri-Agency award such as a CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC is not an "external sponsor". See sponsorship billing for details.
