GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: 

The eLearning Developer serves as the primary resource and driver for developing excellence in educational delivery across course formats by providing strategic goals for online programming while supporting Continuing Education facilitators and program developers in the design, development, implementation and assessment of course content in online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced traditional courses. This position will create, design, manage, promote, and implement successful online learning strategies throughout Kirkwood’s Continuing Education division. The eLearning Developer will provide recommendations to the Continuing Professional Education Director and leadership team for short and long-range planning for the CE division’s distance learning vision and deployment of programs.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Keep up to date on the latest trends in online learning and provide the Continuing Professional Education Director with strategic insight and recommend improvements for online learning opportunities.
  • Work closely with all Program Developers in the Continuing Education division of the college. Both will work with subject matter experts for course content.
  • Accountable for all courses that are in an online format. 
  • Working the Program Developers makes decisions and recommendations on any vendor partnerships.
  • Direct the planning and overall operations of the Distance Learning Programs in the Continuing Education division.
  • Provides consultation for the design, development, implementation and evaluation of distance education projects, programs and initiatives
  • Serve as a performance consultant with knowledge to determine the appropriate training solution. 
  • Serve as an instructional designer with knowledge on how to craft a successful learning experience. 
  • Possess excellent visual and graphic design skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of network and media technologies and authoring tool proficiencies are crucial to this position. 
  • Provide guidelines for selection of instructional technologies and resources based on educational best practices. Knowledge of applicable hardware/software to support curriculum development, effective instruction for successful transfer of knowledge is required for this position. 
  • Analyze data in order to create informed decisions. Ability to prepare reports summarizing distance learning statistical data and/or describing distance learning program objectives and accomplishments.
  • Develop and maintain a competitive advantage with the focus on value and quality of offerings. 
  • Assist the facilitators in use & application of technologies.
  • Foster collaboration among programmers and facilitators and eLearning Developer. 
  • Develop and maintain rigorous quality assurance programs.
  • Utilize benchmarking and best practices and market drivers in the distance education industry for creation of quality curriculum and excellence of delivery of instruction.
  • Focus strategic planning on outcomes by focusing on results for students.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

 

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work.  Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum (advanced degree in a related field preferred) ideally in learning technologies, training and development, and/or instructional design. Equivalent work experience in educational or training environment. 
  • Experience and/or degree in providing education through e-Learning platforms, learning management systems, alternative methods using technology-assisted learning software applications, online survey tools, simulation software and authoring tools.
  • Preferred three years of related experience in administration or higher education 
  • Two years of related experience in creation and/or management of alternative delivery methods of instruction. 
  • Proficient in Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia, InDesign, or similar graphic design and training development tools.
  • Knowledge of LMS systems.
