DESY Summer Student Programme 2021
News June 1: The tentative schedule for the online lecture programme is ready and the registration is open . The lecture programme is open for all interested students.
Each summer DESY offers undergraduate students in physics, related natural science disciplines or computing the possibility to participate in the research activities of the Hamburg and Zeuthen (near Berlin) laboratory sites. The 2021 program will take place from July 19 to September 10. An announcement poster can be found here. The program has been adapted to the special conditions due to the Covid pandemic and consists of two parts:
1. Lecture programme: The virtual lecture programme will take place in the period 26th July - 20th August. The lectures cover the main research areas of DESY and illuminate the physics behind it. The lectures are open for all interested students. Further details and online registration are available here . This registration is completely separate from a possible application for work projects described below.
2. Individual work projects: We offer in total about 40 work projects described here. The application phase has ended April 10.

Who can apply for work projects
Qualifications:
Applicants should have completed, by the summer of 2021, at least three years of full-time studies at university level in physics, related natural science disciplines or computing. Please take note that large majority of projects we offer is for physics students. The main target audiences are students who in summer 2021 are at the following two stages: - they are about to obtain their Bachelor degree - they have a Bachelor degree and are within their Master degree studies. Applicants who already obtained a master-degree or will obtain it by summer 2021 are not accepted.
Applicants should not have previously been at DESY as a summer student
Please note that all applicants should have a good working knowledge of English and some basic computing skills.
Duration and dates: The Summer student programme period is July 19 to September 10, 2021. The individual work projects take place within this period but can have a different start or end time. The students are expected to participate during the full period of the projects they apply for.
